Sweet news for my Sweet-Heart

My dear wife McKenna is the love of my life. I am super lucky to have her in my life.  Being married has taught me a ton of things, especially about type 1 diabetes. My wife was diagnosed when she was eight years old.  I wanted to share some awesome news with everyone about type 1 diabetes.  We went to the JDRF walk to cure diabetes last week and found out that there will be new testers used in iPhones!  That means no lugging around huge blood testers anymore!  Gotta love technology! We shall conquer it one step at a time.

UCCU- Mobile Deposit

I have recently joined the marketing team at Utah Community Credit Union.
They hired me on as their videographer/photographer.  My first task was to make a tutorial on how to use mobile deposit. It was a bit hard for me, since I have to portray someone else's
creativity.
 Take a look.

100' slip n slide

Have you ever done a 100' slip n' slide? Let me tell you its fantastic!  We went a while back, and I'm still editing the footage from the go pro, but I must suggest you try it.  We went to rock canyon park, but the downfall is that there are no hose connectors, so we brought coolers of water and poured it down each time we went.  Give it a shot.  I'll keep you posted about the video. Below is part of the
fr-amily (friend family) after the slip n' slide.

Digital Media Beginnings-RDPOV

Act I: In the Beginning

The company started out of the desire to make a local highschool news station. The station was called Red Devil Point of View (RDPOV). It wasn't the greatest station, but it was ours. From there the crew (James, Ryan, Jaron, Landon)and I started making mini movie shorts. They ranged from music videos, crazy love potions, and silly PSA ads. This had taken up most of our highschool careers, that along with a strange addiction to sitting in our local coffee shop, drinking a variety of flavorful hot chocolates.

Act II: Journeys of our own

After highschool was over, we all started to go seperate ways. We went to see the world, some stayed for about two years in places such as Madagascar, Spain, Iowa, Florida, Peru, and California. After these two years, we came back to good ol' fashioned Utah. We had reunited. We attempted to follow our passions, with some of us starting up our own wedding videography/photography business, and others doing a different vocations such as computer programmer, a male nurse, and a dentist.

Act III: Connections

After trying out the friend wedding/photography businesses, we decided to try on our own. Jaron started up a video ad company, while James is still being a male nurse, and Landon is a computer programming ninja. James, Landon, and Ryan started up a podcast called The Valley Podcast, you can still listen to it today. I sometimes guest star. Tanner has a baby girl, and is still going after his dream of being a dentist. I have continued with the videography/photography business also. I have Parallel Productions and work full time at UCCU as their in house videographer/photographer. We all meet up and connect about once a month or so, and we help each other out on projects that require our skill set. We have yet to see how the male nurse thing ties in with computer programming, but who knows what the future holds? WebMD 2?

The Valley Podcast

Last week I had an opportunity to be involved in The Valley Podcast.  It's the one Landon, James, & Ryan started.  It was pretty cool.  I really hope it grows marvelously for them. If you want to hear the show I was on, take a listen.

3 things to do before saying 'I-do'

I just finished an article on squidoo.com, but I felt it important to share on this blog also.  So being a wedding photographer, its interesting to see the differences in couples.  You can almost tell which ones are going to ease into the married life and those that are going to have a bit more difficulty.  However, here are three tools to help prevent some difficulties of marriage.

Secret 1
Take a financial class, I would suggest FPU by Dave Ramsey- if one of the top reasons people get divorced is money issues, then why not tackle it head on at an early stage of your relationship.

Secret 2
Go to marriage counseling together. Our counselor said "those that come to counseling usually aren't the ones that need it." Usually they will talk about issues you haven't encountered yet and it helps prepare you for whats coming.

Secret 3
Talk about sex. Don't just assume you know what each other like and are expecting.
 Good communication=Good sex.

Would you trash your wedding dress?

You may have already heard about me talking about this, but I just wanted to
talk to you about trash the dress.  i was approached by a bride of 3 years who wanted to celebrate her third anniversary with her husband.  They decided to do a trash the dress session.  We did photos and video.  To be honest,  I think I had just as much fun as they did.  However, I did get a bit of gruff from some viewers about destroying such a beautiful dress.  I understand their worry. However, I must say it was a ton of fun.  Which leads me to the question, would you trash your
wedding dress?

What camera to buy?

Looking for a camera to start off with?  I love my canon eos 60d.  Its simple and easy to use.  Plus it has the same video sensor as the 7d if you want to make videos with it also.  Check it out! However, if you like Nikon better, check out the nikon d7000
